Plot Summary:Based on the Margaret Edson play, Vivian Bearing is a literal, hardnosed English professor who has been diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer. During the story, she reflects on her reactions to the cycle the cancer takes, the treatments, and significant events in her life. The people that watch over her are Jason Posner, who only finds faith in being a doctor; Susie Monahan, a nurse with a human side that is the only one in the hospital that cares for Vivian's condition; and Dr. Kelekian, the head doctor who just wants results no matter what they are.

HBO出品虽然制作上太类似于电视电影，但是尼克尔森+汤普森的剧本太牛，真正意义上的「哲学电影」，乐观、冷静而自嘲的看待短暂的一生，即使仓促也比世界上绝大多数人真正「有意义」，尊严才是高于生命的人的主宰。
